Network Expansion Plan
Our network relies on community members hosting nodes. We currently have solid home-based coverage with strong footholds in East Lawrence and on Mt. Oread, but we need your help to fill the gaps.
Key Locations Needed
- Mt. Oread Relocation: Our current Mt. Oread node is restricted by campus buildings. We need an unblocked rooftop view pointing West to relay signals down the hill. Ideal locations include Fraser Hall, the Student Union, and the Oread Hotel.
- West Lawrence: The western sprawl is currently a dead zone. We desperately need roof nodes in this area to catch signals bouncing off the western slope of KU.
- North Lawrence (Levee): A node placed near the Kaw River levee has an unobstructed, flat shot directly back up to Mt. Oread, providing great coverage for the northern neighborhoods.
- South Lawrence: High-gain roof nodes are needed in the southern reaches of the city to handle expansion.
Can you host a roof node?
If you live in one of these target areas and are willing to put a small solar-powered box on your roof, you will dramatically improve the city's network.
